A Comprehensive List of Auto Recalls and Auto Part Recalls

Although car manufacturers utilize cutting-edge technology when designing and manufacturing vehicles, occasionally, something goes wrong. You may find that your vehicle will be recalled at some stage for repairs. Over the past six months, there have been many auto recalls, affecting trucks, sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, and more. From issues with the radiator failing audio systems, there are many reasons why a car may be recalled by the manufacturer.

We’ve put together a comprehensive list of auto recalls and auto part recalls from the past six months, so you can see them all in one place.

Why do Car Manufacturers Issue Recalls?

car factory

Car manufacturers (or the NHTSA) will issue a recall if they discover that the vehicle, or a specific part of a vehicle, does not meet minimum safety standards. (They will discover this if enough people report the same problem).

If this happens, the manufacturer is required to recall the vehicle and either fix or replace the part free of charge to the owner of the vehicle. Sometimes these issues happen during the manufacturing process and do not show themselves until much later – which is why a recall can suddenly occur out of the blue even if your car is running just fine.

What Should I Do If My Car is Recalled?

Firstly – don’t panic! It sounds scary if your car is recalled, but it could be down to something very small that may only become a problem over time. It could also be that your particular car is not affected, as sometimes recalls only impact some vehicles, not all of them.

The manufacturer will contact you, usually by mail. This is why it’s important to make sure your vehicle registration is up to date – so if you move home, it’s important to let them know. You can also sign up for the NHTSA e-mail recall notifications list – they will then email you about any recalls relating to your model of vehicle.

You need to follow the instructions given by your manufacturer. They may tell you to take your car to a particular dealer to have it repaired. This may be a pain, but it’s important. They won’t charge you for it, so you don’t have to worry about paying.

If the manufacturer tells you not to drive the car, or to follow other instructions, make sure you do as they say. This is for your own safety (and the safety of your passengers). Sometimes a recall may be as simple as needing to update a safety information sticker on a certain part, or just re-tuning some software within the vehicle. Sometimes it can be more of a major job that could take longer to fix.

Now let’s take a look at all the biggest recalls from the past six months.

Frequently Asked Questions about Car Recalls

Where can I find my vehicle identification number (VIN)?

It’s on the lower-left of your car’s windshield – a 17-digit number. It may also be on your insurance card.

How can I report a safety problem with my vehicle?

You can report it using u003ca href=u0022https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/u0022u003ethis websiteu003c/au003e. If enough people complain about the same thing, the manufacturer may issue a recall to check and fix any affected vehicles.

Are car recalls common?

They are pretty common, actually. Although manufacturers would prefer to avoid recalls if at all possible, sometimes issues in the manufacturing process don’t reveal themselves until later. If your car is recalled, don’t panic – just take it to a dealer to have it fixed.

Do I get a loaner car during a recall?

That depends on the dealer you take it to. Manufacturers do not have to provide you with a loaner car.

How long will my car take to fix?

That depends on the severity of the problem and how busy your dealer is. Unfortunately, there’s no way of telling for sure.

Do dealers get paid to fix recalled cars?

Yes – they get paid by the manufacturer, so you don’t have to worry about them being put out by having to fix your car.

In Conclusion

You may not have realized that your car needs to be recalled. If you didn’t see yours on this list but you’d like to double-check, go to NHTSA’s Recalls Look-Up feature. Simply type in your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and it will show any recall requests from the past 15 years.

We hope you’ve found this list helpful. Keep checking in with us at Axle and Chassis for all the auto advice you’ll need. Why not check out our guide to Finding the Best Car Accessories and Tools?
